our establishment
Lusubilo (which means Hope) was established in 1997 by Late Sister Beatrice Chipeta, a Rosarian Sister. The late Sister Beatrice began to visit the villages in Karonga and worked with communities assisting the sick and orphans, as a pastoral activity. That gave her the passion to establish an entity that would support the orphans and vulnerable in the community. Lusubilo’s mandate is to motivate and empower communities in order for them to promote an environment where orphans, the needy, and the elderly are fully cared for, and actively participate in the process. The organization has a strong religious grassroots and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church and operates under Karonga Diocese. With Support from the Coppel Family through the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) in Malawi, Lusubilo has grown organically. The organization has grown from working in only one impact area in Karonga to now working in four impact areas in Karonga, Chitipa, and some parts of Northern Rumphi. Currently, Lusubilo is reaching out to more than 80 communities graduating into over 5000 households, feeding under-five children in 300 village nursery schools in Chitipa, Karonga, and Rumphi, and feeding pupils in over 40 Primary Schools. It also runs an Orphanage with more than 60 children just to mention a few. Lusubilo is been able to do that through support from its partners like the Coppel family from Mexico, Catholic Relief Services, the Mathile foundation, and Kindermissionswerk.
